Breaking News September 15, 2008 - Grand Affair gets grander this year By Mary Beth Rokus for the Daily Tribune Please come and enjoy the beautiful autumn season at the 8th Annual Grand Affair sponsored by the City Centre Committee on Sunday, September 21. Each year the festival has grown with additional activities and support from many organizations. The event now includes activities by the Rapids East Businesses on Saturday, September 20. Take a leisurely drive on Plover Road/Hwy. 54 and visit Altenburg’s Country Gardens, Golden Eagle Log Homes, Donahue Super Sports, and Greg Ellious Motors. Then head towards Kellner, to Down on the Farm, The Picket Fence and St. John’s Church with a stop for breakfast at Conley’s. Other places to visit are Behrend Country Produce & Fresh Meats and The Pumpkin Shed. There will be activities at each stop for the entire family to enjoy. You can conclude the day with Live Country Music at River Country Road House. Festivities begin on Sunday at 10 am. Over 70 Arts & Crafts booths will be lined up on Grand Avenue and Johnson Street. Why not get a head start on your holiday shopping? Time for lunch? – not to worry. A wide variety of food vendors will be available on 2nd Avenue. Enjoy entertainment on the main stage beginning at 11 am with your favorite old-time music by The Kizoo’s. A special appearance by the talented youngsters of Locals on Stage at 1 PM will be followed by the exciting LHS 17-piece Mariachi Band at 1:30. We welcome piano and harmonica music with “Play It Again TOM!” from 2 – 3:45. The entertainment will conclude with an exhibition by the LHS Dance Team. Other highlights of the day are the Car Cruise-In sponsored by the Creeper Car Club that can be viewed on the Grand Avenue Bridge and along the river on 1st Avenue. Take a tour of historical downtown and 3rd Street on the Cranberry Bus. Hop on/off with stops at the SWC Historical Museum, Central Wisconsin Cultural Center, Grand Avenue & Centralia Center. Don’t miss the Grand Affair Art Show in the Centralia Center Riverwalk. A Fashion Show with the Miss Wisconsin Rapids Area contestants will be held at 1 PM in the Theatre, and at 2 pm enjoy “A Visit with Will Rogers” in the WRCT Studio Theatre. There will be games and rides for the kids and costumed historical characters from Historic Point Basse will do demonstrations.
